Barossa Valley
The Barossa Valley is not merely a wine-producing region. Some of the most established and recognised names in Australian wine can be found here; Peter Lehmann, Grant Burg, Yalujmba and Wolf Blass are the more commonly heard names while Penfold's has entered the Autralian market with its famous Grange, a symbol for the most prestigous of wines.
The Barossa has played a valuable part in the history of Australian wine achieving great heights with its many grape varietals in its vast valleys. It was developed solely for agriculture and viticulture after European settlement by the British. However the region acquired a distinctive German flavor when Silesian Lutherans emigrated from Prussia. SInce then the region has been producing wine and finding early success in port-style fortifieds and more recently experiementing with Shiraz.
