Langhorne Creek

Langhorne Creek sits atop an ancient natural floodplain between the Bremer and Angas Rivers on the shores of Lake Alexandrina. Its bearings, blessing the region with favourable alluvial soils, was what would pave the way for the wine history that was to be written.

With 160 years of winemaking, the vineyards of the region is proudly run by family owned wineries, one of which would be the world oldest family owned Cabernet vines from the Brothers in Arms winery, which is currently still in production. What was initially a red wine growing district known for its production purely in Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz, quickly shifted to experimenting with the other grape varieties. Furthermore, due to its location near the banks, flooding acorss the vineyards is not an uncommon occurence especially in the winters. This surprisingly works favourably to the vineyards, improving the terroir of the region.

To this day, six generations of families have grown grapes in this region, the Potts of Bleasdale, the Folles of Lake Breeze, the Case family of Kimbolton, and the Adamns family of Brothers in Arms. Additionally, many pioneering families among the region's grape growers also supply their premium fruits from historic vines such as Celgettes, Wenzels and Boretts.
