Napa Valley
In the earlier days of the Napa Valley, wild grapes grew in abundance but it was only when settler George Calvert Yount saw its potential in cultivating wine grapes back in 1839. He was then the first one to build a homestead in the area before other pioneers such as John Patchet and Hamilton Walker Crabb also helped in introducing European wine grapes into the area.
In the eary 1940s was when vintners realised that they would be far more successful working together than individually on their own, marking a pivotal point in Napa Valley's history. In 1944, seven vintners signed the agreement of association, thus officially forming the Napa Valley Vintners rade association, now booming over 550 wineries.
