Sonoma
There are few places that have retained as much of the spirit of old California as Sonoma County. With its rich history on grapes and wine, it is no wonder they are deemed America's first wine country.
As early as 1821, the Spanish Franciscan fathers paved the way for the wine industry of Sonoma in 1832 when Padre Jose Altimera planted several thousand grapevines during one of their missions. Unfortunately, due to some politcal disagreements, the vines planted during that mission had to be relocated elsewhere to start new vineyards in 1834.
During this time, other areas in the county were also undergoing developments, areas what we now know as Alexander Valley, Santa Rosa and Valley of the Moon.
In 1855, was when we would see the appearance of a Hungarian man who was considered "The Father of California Wine Industry". County Agoston Haraszthy who would purchase the Salavdor Vellejo vineyard in Sonoma Valley which was later renamed to Beuna Vista.
From then on, Haraszthy had proved that wines made in Sonoma County could also rival the quality of the wines made in Europe.
