Victoria
The wine region of Victoria is most well known for their number of producers in Australia. The practice of grape growing and winemaking dates back to the mid 1800s. Between the 18090s to the 1950s however, the region was met with a pest infestation which unfortunately damaged many of the crops and ultimately led to a decline of the practice.
The wineries of Victoria now span all over the entire state, all being vastly individualistic with their wines and utilising the climate unique to that area to showcase their skills in a outstanding bottle of wine. From regions surrounding Port Philip having a moderate to cooler climate, perfect for the likes of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, whilst the more northern wine regions see warmer climates allowing for the production of high yielding and affordable wines.
Todat, the more common grape varietals planted in this region are Shiraz, Pinot Noir, Charddonay and Cabernet Sauvignon, more specifically those originating from Italy.
