Library Vintages: Paul Jaboulet Hermitage "La Chapelle"

Paul Jaboulet Aîné boasts a long history of winemaking and merchanting. The winery was originally founded by Antoine Jaboulet in 1834 in the Northern Rhône Valley, but is now owned by the Frey family which owns numerous vineyards across the region.

Often voted among the world's best SyrahsHermitage La Chapelle fosters admiration, respect, envy, and desire. Across the globe, wineries strive to produce Syrahs that display this complexity and intensity. In fact, the 1961 Hermitage La Chapelle has become a legendary collector's item, with a 100 point rating from Robert Parker and an exceptional reputation among leading critics.

Hermitage, named after a chapel, is a small commune where you can find the vineyard La Chapelle near the scenic banks of River Rhône. With 120 hectares of vineyards, this family business produces fine wines in 26 other appellations, including Côtes Rotie, Condrieu and Chateauneuf-du-Pape.

"Trust in nature without being tempted by the ease and certainty that chemicals can provide.- Caroline Frey. The Jaboulet estate's vineyards obtained organic certification in 2016, only 10 years after Caroline Frey became the head winemaker and viticulturist. Using biodynamic practices and a gravity flow system, there is an enhanced acidity present in the wines as well as a more complex, fuller taste.

world class cellaring wine, Hermitage La Chapelle is at its best between 20-60 years of age and 15 years for exceptional vintages. You can look forward to an expressive Syrah with a deep color and an even deeper flavor profile, savoury yet earthy with leafy aromas.
