Offer: 100 pointers | Spain

A great way to introduce yourself to the Old World is with Spanish wines, although we are quite sure that none of you reading this are new to wines.

In our selection of Spanish wines, two wineries stand out: Dominio de Pingus and Artadi.
Dominio de Pingus
A Danish oenologist, Peter Sisseck, founded the Domaine de Pingus in 1995 in Quintanilla de Onesimo in the Valladolid province. According to Peter, the secret to his perfect wines is that his vineyards are located in the La Horra area of the Ribera del Duero region. These ancient vines have never received fertilizer or pesticide treatments and the resulting wines are unique, aromatic explosions of luxurious tannins and extreme balance.

With 12 single vineyard plots worked with sustainable agricultural methods, Artadi is a 75 hectare winery located in the heart of Lava with 12 single vineyard plots. Founded in 1985 by Juan Carlos and 11 local vine growers, the wines are full-bodied and ripe with plenty of round, dense tannins that reflect the unique character of the vineyard.

Dominio de Pingus, Pingus   2012

"There are plenty of floral notes, violets, even lilies; it's extremely aromatic, subtle and precise with just some Indian spices in the background to give it an exotic character. With time in the glass, there are some earthy, mineral (even diesel-like?) aromas. It has a rare combination of power and finesse, concentrated but delicate, with buttery, ultra-refined tannins, great balance, acidity, length and a silky texture, not easy to find in Ribera del Duero. This could very well be the best Pingus ever, in the style of 1996, a year of elegance and good acidity, more Burgundian/Atlantic than the average." - The Wine Advocate, 100 points.

Artadi Grandes Anadas   2001

"The prodigious, inky/purple-colored 2001 Grandes Anadas marries elegance with tremendous power and flavor intensity. It represents Spain’s version of Comte de Vogue’s Musigny ... in a top vintage. Aromas of spice box, violets, raspberries, blackberries, plums, cherries, and an undeniable minerality are found in this structured, ripe, phenomenally intense red. The finish exceeds one minute, yet it gives the impression that it is not close to being mature." - The Wine Advocate, 98 points.

Artadi Vina El Pison   2018

"The flagship single-vineyard 2018 Viña El Pisón has to be one of the finest vintages for this bottling. There's something mysterious about this Pisón; it's subtle and elegant, a little austere and reticent at first. The palate is seamless, silky with very refined tannins, with gobsmacking balance and a very long, clean and precise finish." - The Wine Advocate, 99 points.
