In the Rioja landscape, Juan-Carlos López de Lacalle has established himself as one of the top producers due to his forward-thinking style and site-specific vineyard focus. His winery, Artadi, began as a cooperative producing traditional young wines for the local market but evolved into an impeccable winery specializing in terroir-driven wines.
The winery is situated in Laguardia, on 85 hectares of vineyards dedicated to Tempranillo for its reds. The wines are named after the vineyard where they were produced and in particular, the vineyards of El Pisón boast 2.4 hectares of vines planted by Juan Carlos' grandfather in 1945, making it the equivalent of a Grand Cru in terms of personality, quality and ageing potential.
In our opinion, tasting a wine as it evolves through the vintages is the best way to enjoy it.
