Offer: Château Clos Fourtet 1981

Château Clos Fourtet, which once protected Saint-Émilion from outside invaders, is today a historic monument still enclosed by walls. Thanks to the Lurton family's efforts in 1998, Château Clos Fourtet's wines were able to regain their true potential, with their best vines concentrated on the limestone plateau close to the estate. An underground system of chambers makes up one of Saint-Émilion's most impressive cellars, a treasured attraction located beneath the Château.

The average vine age in the vineyard is 30 years old, younger than average considering many of the vines were replanted in 1991. Creating the best wine possible starts with the vineyards, where Château Clos Fourtet practices sustainable, biodynamic vine cultivation with a no expense spared attitude. It was hard work that paid off because the winery joined ranks as a Premier Cru Classé B in 2009.
The wines of Château Clos Fourtet are gaining in popularity among the top critics, receiving scores close to 100 in younger vintages. About 85% of the wine is Merlot, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 5% Cabernet Franc, resulting in a robust and distinguished wine. Beautiful red fruit flavours are prominent with well-structured tannins, full-bodied flavour, and excellent aging potential.

Château Clos Fourtet   1981
"The medium-weight 1981 Clos Fourtet St.-Emilion has above-average fruit intensity, but the wood flavors dominate the frail composition of the wine. A nice ripe cherry component indicates good ripeness of the grapes." - The Wine Advocate.
