Offer: Conti Costanti

For more than 200 years, Conti Costanti has been one of Montalcino's best estates, producing Brunellos with great elegance, complexity and great longevity. This 10-hectare estate has belonged to the Costanti family for many generations and they were among the first to name Montalcino red wine Brunello. A geology graduate, Andrea Costanti was appointed heir and successor in 1983 and his search for the perfect bouquet led to a strong sense of harmony among the terroir with every passing day.

Located in the cool climate of north-east Montalcino, the high altitude of 380 - 450 meters makes it challenging for the grapes to ripen. As a result of global warming, the increased temperatures in the region are balanced by the cold currents blowing through the hillside vineyards at night. The combination of these factors brings out the aromas, ripeness, concentration and exceptional flavour of the grapes.

“These handmade, artisan wines remain some of the most individualistic terroir-driven wines in Montalcino. I can't recommend them highly enough. Andrea Costanti is at the top of his game, it's as simple as that.” - Antonio Galloni.

Offer: Conti Costanti

Locally known as Brunello, Sangiovese vines range in age from 6 - 25 years in the vineyards, and three hectares of Merlot and Cabernet have been planted in recent years. Conti Costanti is committed to cultivating only the highest quality with low yields and using a meticulous selection process during harvest ensures the grapes are exceptional before fermentation. As part of Andrea Costanti's approach to winemaking, he appreciates the terroir and natural character of wines that grow in cooler climates, aiming for long-term development rather than immediate impact.

Generally, young Costanti Brunellos are dense and hard to penetrate. As they bottle-age to maturity, the wines are arguably among the richest and most harmonious of the region, showing extensive dark cherry and blackberry fruit, highlighted by supple, elegant tannins.

Rosso di Montalcino   2017

"The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is all class. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, rose petal, sweet spice, cedar and pipe tobacco are all given an extra kick of intensity in this decidedly boisterous, rich Rosso. I would give the 2017 another year or two to shed some baby fat. This is such a pretty, racy wine. Readers will find a Rosso that deftly balances the natural opulence of the year with a super-classic, translucent expression of Sangiovese. Drink 2019 - 2032." - Vinous, 93 points.

Brunello di Montalcino   2013

"Very deep red. Flinty, floral red cherry and underbrush on the enticing, very pure, precise nose. Then silky and suave, with ripe red cherry, underbrush and savory spices lingering nicely on the long creamy finish. Another classic, outstanding Brunello from Costanti, who has made a few in his time. Drink 2021 - 2035." - Vinous, 96 points.

Brunello Riserva   2012

"Heady scents of chopped herbs, woodland berry, forest floor, new leather, dark spice and violet are just some of the aromas you’ll find on this fragrant wine. It’s savory and loaded with finesse, delivering juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry compote, licorice, orange zest and pipe tobacco alongside firm yet polished tannins and fresh acidity. A tangy mineral note graces the lingering finish. It’s still young and needs plenty of time to fully unwind and develop. Drink 2027 - 2042." - Wine Enthusiast, 100 points.
