Offer: Domaine Bernard Moreau Magnums

In talking about Chassagne-Montrachet, it is impossible to ignore Domaine Bernard Moreau. Each year, this renowned producer produces some of the purest and almost intriguing wines of the region. Bernard uses a minimalist approach to winemaking to craft luxurious, complex and mouth-watering Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.
The history of the winery goes back to 1809 when Auguste Moreau built a cellar and farmed a few hectares of Chardonnay and Pinot along Burgundy's golden slopes. In the early 1960s, the vineyards and cellar were taken over by Bernard Moreau at the tender age of 14. By 1977, the estate established its reputation under Bernard and Françoise Moreau, hence the name Domaine Bernard Moreau.

The vineyard has also grown in size by 14 hectares, in addition to improvements to equipment, agriculture and winemaking. Today, the domaine's sons Alex and Benoît oversee the winemaking, viticulture and sales after gaining experience in New Zealand, Australia, and South Africa.

Most great Burgundian estates place an emphasis on terroir, and Domaine Moreau is no exception. According to Bernard, if you treat your vineyards right, you will receive superior fruit in return. Sustainable farming is practiced at the winery; organic fertilizer and no pesticides are used.
As part of its efforts to reduce yields, the winery also concentrates heavily on pruning and green harvesting in August. Moreover, cover crops are planted to encourage competition and absorb moisture in some vineyards. By taking these meticulous steps, greater flavour intensity is achieved and the grapes ripen to perfection.
Those who have tasted Domaine Bernard Moreau's white wines have found them to have superb concentration, excellent tension at the core and a long, racy finish. With well judged acidity and a commendable weight in the mouth, you can expect these wines to mature beautifully.

"As it usually is, this is the class of the Moreau range with a delicate trace of moderately toasted wood highlighting the ripe and elegant peach, pear and lemon aromas that lead to arguably the most concentrated flavours in the group and this too is brimming with dry extract that confers a velvety and sappy texture onto the driving and mineral suffused finish that delivers superb intensity. Drink 2012+" - Burghound, 92 points.

Offer: Domaine Bernard MoreauChassagne-Montrachet "Morgeot" 1er   2005
"Given the difficulties with hail in 2005, any number of examples from this vineyard turned out to be a bit heavy and ponderous but that's not the case here as the slightly toasty nose sets off fresh and ripe aromas of mostly peach, pear and apricot where the latter in particular can be found on the big, powerful and robust flavours that possess ample drive and focus on the impressively long finish. This is a big boy yet there is a certain underlying grace as well. To cellar over the medium term. Drink 2010+" - Burghound, 91 points.
