Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal, the E. Guigal Estate has been working on a 24-centuries old vines situated in the Cote-Rotie Appellation. Marcel, son of Etienne took over in 1961 followed by the current Estate's winemaker, Philippe, his son and represents the third generation of the winery.

In 1995, the family purchased the famous Chateau d'Ampuis situated amongst the vines and bordered by the king of rivers: the Rhône. The said chateau is an important historic and oenological monument whose long history is directly linked to the Côte-Rôtie appellation. In fact, it is registered as a national historic monument and undergone renovation for more than 5 years. It becomes the Estate's headquarters since then yet the office and the cellars remain in the small village of Ampuis.

All the hardwork and perseverance continue to give them harvest through the acquisitions of Jean-Louis GRIPPAT Estate in Saint-Joseph and Hermitage and the VALLOUIT Estate in Côte-Rôtie, Hermitage, Saint-Joseph and Crozes-Hermitage.

At present, E. Guigal has reached the pedestal of being internationally-renowned. Their famous single vineyard wines known as La-La's (La Mouline, La Turque, La Landonne) have set a record for the most expensive release of any Rhone wine retailing at around $800.
