Petrolo
Petrolo is situated in Val d’Arno di Sopra, on the southeast side of the Chianti mountains, adjacent to the Chianti Classico region. The Bazzocchi family acquired Petrolo in the 1940s. It wasn't until the 1980s that Lucia Bazzocchi Sanjust recognized the remarkable potential of Petrolo's hillside soil. With her son Luca's assistance, she embarked on a comprehensive revitalization of the company's production methods, striving to achieve the highest quality results. Since 2016, all of Petrolo's wines have held official EU Organic Certification.
Their wine Galatrona, represents Petrolo's pinnacle Merlot offering, sourced exclusively from the vineyard of the same name. This vineyard was planted between the late 1980s and the mid-1990s, utilizing low-vigor Bordeaux clones. The unique composition of the soil, which combines clay with schist, marl, and sandstones, plays a crucial role in concentrating the noble components of the grapes. These elements are fundamental in crafting a wine that embodies great structure, elegance, balance, and enduring persistence, all of which are the hallmark qualities of Galatrona.
