Ponsot
Founded by William Ponsot in 1872, The Domaine Ponsot remains as a family-run business until today.
William, a St Romain native purchased a wine estate in Morey-St-Denis where he pioneered the winery's Clos des Monts-Luisants and Clos de la Roche alongside the other appellations of Gevrey-Chambertin Les Combottes and Charmes Chambertin. He then followed by his Nephew Hippolyte Ponsot where he increased the size of Clos de la Roche and started to bottle his harvest in the Domaine and sold their very first vintage, which is 1934 in France including the United States and other European countries. He was also one of the founders of the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC) classification for Burgundy wines in 1935 and 1936.
Jean-Marie took over and ran the business from the 1960s to early 1980s where he expanded the winery plantings via métayage agreement in Chambolle-Musigny, Chambertin, Latricières-Chambertin and together with his wife acquired Gevrey-Chambertin, Cuvée de l’Abeille, and Chapelle-Chambertin.
