Domaine de Chevalier, drive for perfection
The origins of Domaine de Chevalier date back to 1783. Located in Léognan, the capital of the Graves region, the estate was acquired in 1983 by the Bernard family—France’s leading producer of spirits and a major Bordeaux wine merchant. Since then, it has been managed by Olivier Bernard and his dedicated team. Under his leadership, the estate has upheld a tradition of balance and a relentless pursuit of perfection that has defined this exceptional Grand Cru for over 140 years. Domaine de Chevalier red is one of the flagship Classified Growths of Bordeaux.
The red vineyard covers 60 hectares and is in conversion to Organic Farming.
The 2024 vintage
The year began with a mild winter and a rainy spring, but without any frost, encouraging vigorous vine growth. Despite mildew pressure, which was well controlled by the vineyard team, flowering occurred under favorable conditions, followed by a hot, dry summer ideal for ripening. For the reds, the grape varieties with more resilient skins and our-well-draining soils allowed us to wait for optimal phenolic ripeness. Carful, day-by-day decisions and selective harvesting up to October 7th ensured a high level of quality, although with a lower sugar level than in recent vintages. The radiant fruit, the delicate fleshiness, the spicy and mineral nuances, and the refined, elegant tannic structure will shape a beautifull blend to come.
Domaine de Chevalier Rouge 2024 will embody a great classic, enhanced by ever-improving technical and oenological expertise The meticulous sorting, selection, and precision control of the vinifications will bring great clarity and brillance to this blend.
Tasting notes:
Refined and intense nose of small red and black berries, along with fresh humus. Around the finely spiced, peppery, and oak notes of Cabernet Sauvignon, wild strawberry, blackberry, and blackcurrant express themselves with freshness. Merlot brings a soft, deep, and enticing touch of black cherry. The palate, flavorful, precise, and harmonious, stands out for its density of fine, fruity tannins. It unfolds without the slightest weakness, leading to a long, elegant, and luminous finish. A wine of great class and dictinction, exquisitely crafted in a classical style. Very well-balanced, with excellent aging potential.
