Marquis de Terme, a shining Grand Cru
The origins of this vintage date back to the 15th century, but it wasn’t until 1762 that François de Péguilhan, Marquis de Terme, gave it its name. The Sénéclauze family has owned the estate since 1935, and today it is led by Paloma Sénéclauze, representing the fourth generation.
In 2009, Ludovic David took over as director of the estate. The 45 hectares of deep gravel soils are located on the central plateau of Margaux. The vineyard plots benefit from the saline influence of the Gironde estuary and the nearby ocean, which give the wines their signature balance of power and elegance, along with a silky texture and distinctive freshness. The estate masterfully combines the precision of traditional craftsmanship with creativity, lightness, and an open spirit. The team is driven by a deep passion for creating exceptional wines and sharing the unique Marquis de Terme philosophy with the world.
The 2024 vintage:
Rainfall and mild winter conditions enabled buds to emerge progressively and productively. A cool, wet spring slowed vine development, with a lull at the very end of the season. Intense climatic conditions imposed a very sustained human presence in the plots. Summer was calmer, which helped the ripening process. These factors have produced nice polyphenols (tannins and colour) freshness and a complex aromatic palette.
Tasting notes:
An aromatic nose of fresh black berries with floral notes of peony, violet and rose. An elegant, unctuous texture on the palate, showing the finess of this vintage. We went in search of this suave, gourmet substance, the hallmark of a vintage with controlled power, in perfect balance with the freshness of this Marquis de Terme 2024. Further ageing will refine the tannins and give more aromatic complexity.
