Clos du Marquis, the greatness of Saint-Julien's terroirs
Clos du Marquis, created in 1902, finds its origin in the Petit Clos adjacent to the Château de Léoville, the residence of the Marquis de Las Cases. Clos du Marquis is a historic vineyard of the Delon estates, originally separate from the vineyard of Léoville Las Cases.
Today, the vineyard producing Clos du Marquis is mainly located on the great terroirs of the Saint-Julien appellation, surrounded by prestigious classified growths. The Petit Clos, a historic 4.5-hectare walled vineyard, was once the private garden of the 1st Marquis de Las Cases. It lies adjacent to his chateau at the gateway to the village of Saint-Julien. A larger vineyard extends outwards on the appellation’s famous plateau to the west of the route de Pauillac, bordering Pichon Baron to the north.
The 2024 vintage:
The 2024 vintage highlights the vine’s resilience in the face of a demanding season. A wet winter and rainy spring with mildew pressure were followed by a drier summer that allowed for good ripening. Precise harvesting and rigorous sorting revealed vibrant, fleshy Merlots and deep, elegant Cabernets. 2024 was a vintage that was shaped with care and precision, revealing a full, noble expression of Saint-Julien.
